Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour

Emi, just eighteen, is an intern set designer. She is also out and has a six-time-dumped and five-times-returned relationship with Morgan, who now seems to want to get back together. Emi and her best friend, Charlotte, are avid film buffs and swoop to buy spoils from the house of a deceased cowboy-film legend. In one of their purchases, they find a letter from the deceased star to an unknown woman and they embark on a journey to find the lady the letter was addressed to. The addressee turns out to be his daughter, dead of overdose by the time Emi and Charlotte are looking for her. She, however, had a daughter. So now, it’s up to the two girls to find the daughter, Ava.

The book doesn’t focus on the romance (it is between Emi and Ava). It focusses on aspects of filmmaking. However, the simmering attraction between the two unapologetically out girls has you hooked. There is little angst between the two. All the angst is reserved for Ava’s past and for her mother’s life.

This is a slow-paced book that has you hooked nevertheless because the characters (all of them) are so winsome. A lovely, lovely read.
