Pick of the Day

The Bad Mothers' Book Club by Keris Stainton

⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book is more chicklit than lesfic but is thoroughly enjoyable. It starts in the dreaded gate-moms world. Yeah, that is...

Blurred Lines (Cops and Docs #1) by K.D. Williamson (Audiobook)

Kelli McCabe, a detective, is shot on the job. She and her partner, Travis, are both hospitalised. Doctor Nora Whitmore is a surgeon in the hospital. Nora is a darn good doctor but suffers from extremely poor social skills. She is stand-offish at work and generally unpopular with her colleagues. Nora is the attending, so though she is not Kelli’s doctor, she has a couple of interactions with the laid-up-in-bed cop. Unexpectedly, Nora finds herself locking horns (verbally) with Kelli and behaving unprofessionally. However, Nora finds these interactions with Kelli more real than any other in her life and starts creating time to visit Kelli more often. The two develop a kind of friendship with oceans of sexual tension running beneath the flimsy façade.

Swearing, cockiness and bad behaviour are not exactly endearing qualities in lead character and Kelli was an immediate fail for us on these counts. Kudos to the voice artiste for getting the smug cockiness in her voice for Kelli spot-on. We did like Nora right from the start and liked the voice done for her too. The tones used for Nora were all soft and feminine. There are way, way too many threads in the story in lives of both, Nora and Kelli and we’d probably have skipped quite a few bits had we been reading this one instead of listening to it. Kelli does redeem herself somewhat by being there for Nora when Nora’s career is threatened, but again, smug cockiness is her undoing. The attraction and romance are built at a good pace and we really liked descriptions of Nora’s reactions to Kelli.

This is a fair read (umm, listen), on the whole.
