A Royal Romance by Jenny Frame

So we did this series a little backwards. We first read Royal Court and loved Bea plus the relationship between her and George’s which is why we read this one. Clearly, the author has become a better writer in the latter book.

About this one: It is set sometime in the future. Princess Georgina (George) is Britain’s first openly gay monarch (never mind the fact she has never been with a woman). When she ascends the throne, she decides to cast her favour to one particular charity, which just happens to be where Beatrice (Bea) Elliot, an anti-monarchist republican works. Bea is assigned to take Her Royal Highness on a tour across Britain over a period of six months to show her the work being done by the charity.

Some scenes are really sweet…like Bea helping George through her panic attacks. Bea hovers on the edge of becoming more than a single dimension but George remain uni-dimensional despite the author’s best efforts.

The book meanders, has unnecessary villain and vamp characters and just does not grab the reader or flow. It gets kinda tedious. Read it only if you’re reading the series and want some back story – though the backstory is not completely necessary.
