Thirteen Hours By Meghan O’Brien

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

Free-spirited stripper (Laurel Stanley) and an uptight project manager (Dana Watts) are the protagonists of this one by Meghan O’Brien who writes more erotic romance than romance.

Dana’s friend Scott gives her a lap dance by a stripper in her office as a birthday gift. The gift goes wrong immediately as Dana reacts badly. She escorts the stripper out and they get stuck in a jammed elevator for – you guessed it – thirteen hours. A life-changing thirteen hours for both of them.

So, here’s the thing. We like the book. Pretty much. But in the whole thirteen hours in the elevator, Dana’s character just doesn’t add up. From angry and uptight to mellow and vulnerable…that jump didn’t have enough segue in characterisation. Laurel’s character is on a well-thought-out and well-developed trajectory, but Dana is uneven. And when one character is so patchily developed for almost half the book, it takes time to get into the story and flow.

It really mars the book.

But the second half with all the love and romance, and endless torrid sex is really good. Again, the jump is Dana’s character is a little hard to take, but at least it is better explained, with enough time given for the changes to take place.

That said, this book is appealing to both, the romantics and the erotica seekers. There is role-play and some BDSM involved, so if that doesn’t float your boat, you may want to skip some parts…but then again, they’re not cringe-worthy, so try this one out for size because it is the tamest way to get a peek into those lifestyles.

All stars for this one because of Laurel, who is lovely, lovely, lovely and fantastic sex scenes.
