Pick of the Day

Something Tragic by Jessica Yeh

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆★ There are some books that hold you in a thrall of emotions that they create long after you’ve finished them. You have emotions...

Listen by Kris Bryant

This is a wonderfully written book of an erstwhile famous musical prodigy, Lily Croft, who had a public meltdown leading her to become something of a recluse. Love extends hand to Lily in form of Hope D’Marco, who runs a centre to bring music into the lives of the young who cannot pursue this interest otherwise.

The relationship between the two MCs is tenderly treated and unfolds softly. One of the loveliest things about the book is the way both the women are inspirations for each other. However, the crisis point was a little difficult to understand. Lily has changed her name and identity from her previous life as a performer. She dilly-dallies on telling Hope the truth. In the meanwhile, she discovers that Hope knew all along who she was. As per us, Hope is the one who should’ve had a problem, but in the scenario Bryant builds, Lilly freaks out and breaks up. We truly cannot understand this.

Other than that one issue, the characters are well written and developed; though we do have a greater liking for Hope and her gentleness and openness.

On the whole, this was a pleasurable read.
