Ready or Not by Melissa Brayden

Melissa Brayden is one of the best lesfic romance writers. Definitely amongst our top three favourites. She writes likeable characters, engaging dialogues, immersive stories with a good balance between emotion and awesome sex scenes.

Having said that, this one fell a little flat for us.

This is the third and final instalment of the Soho Loft Romances featuring a group of four friends: Brooklyn, Samantha, Hunter and Mallory. The SoHo Loft Romances have been so much fun and the friendship amongst the four girls is awesome.

Ready or Not is Mallory’s story. Mallory Spencer comes from old money and is a little uptight. Hope Sanders has scraped her way upwards slowly but surely and has just become the owner of a bar which the four friends frequent. Hope’s interest in Mallory was established right from the first book of the series setting stage for this book.
We felt that this book is the weakest of the lot. Somehow the pairing between Mallory and Hope (the bartender) was kind of forced. Yes, Brayden writes great chemistry and sex, but just the pairing was a little – ummm, forced.

But then, Brayden can do hardly any wrong. If this was a standalone book, it would’ve been great. The problem is this is a part of a really fantastic series, and falls short only, and only, by that fact.

It is interesting to note that Brayden has taken a different, but established, trope in each of the books. The first one, Kiss the Girl was age-gap and enemies-to-lovers. In the second one, Just Three Words, we saw friends-to-lovers. This one is rich-girl-poor-girl and something of melting the ice queen. Despite not being quite blown away by this book as much as we are by most of Brayden’s book, it is the finale of the series so deserves a read.
