Survived by Her Longtime Companion by Chris Paynter

This book is all sorts of wonderful and demands repeated readings.

Daphne DeMonet, an immensely famous movie star passes in her late eighties. The announcement of her death has one little intriguing thing at the end: “survived by her longtime companion”. The longtime companion is Eleanor Burnett. Bailey Hampton is a kickass researcher and she is roped in to interview Eleanor for Daphne’s biography. Bailey is not entirely pleased about the fact that the biographer, who had approached Eleanor earlier, believes that Bailey will get the interview because of the gay-angle and connect between her and Eleanor. However, Bailey needs the extremely attractive fee because she and her partner, Chelsea Parker split a few months back and in their relationship, Chelsea, a university teacher, was the better earner. Unbeknownst to Bailey, Chelsea is also seeking an interview with Eleanor for her own biography about Daphne. Eleanor agrees to be interviewed by both the women, but only together.

There are two love stories in this book, both different and both thoroughly engaging. The long (over sixty years) wild but completely heart-grabbing ride of the Daphne-Ellie story is the anchor and the catalyst for Bailey and Chelsea finding their way back to each other. The Bailey-Chelsea story is a little less awesome, because while Chelsea is absolutely wonderful, Bailey didn’t quite reach the same wow-level.

This is most definitely one of the best lesfic book and totally unmissable.
