A Time of Perfect Change (Taylor and Kaitlyn Book 1) by Leslye Marks

Kaitlyn Collins and Taylor Ables meet at an Educator’s Conference and do the bunk on the conference to play hooky instead. They find each other very exciting and interesting. Kaitlyn takes Taylor to her grandparents’ and while leaving from there, Taylor realises that Kaitlyn is married. While Taylor takes a step back from her mad attraction to Kaitlyn, the latter forges ahead and they get physically intimate. Taylor learns that Kaitlyn’s husband, Michael, is paraplegic and that their marriage was already on the downslide when an accident made him wheelchair bound. The two start their relationship amidst a host of hurdles.

We really like Kaitlyn. Taylor is alright but didn’t evoke any feeling in us. This is in the category of insta-attraction, insta-romance and insta-love. One of the nicest things we’ve read is when Kaitlyn narrates her life to Taylor and when Taylor asks what she can do to help, Kaitlyn responds with a very stark, “Don’t run”. Having said that, the writing is rather clunky, pedantic and clichĂ©-ridden with no flow in the dialogues (except for Kaitlyn’s flirting in the beginning). It surely needs polish. But what really hurts the book more than anything else is frequent mistakes in the MCs names – like Taylor is supposed to be in a store when she meets her ex but suddenly Kaitlyn’s name appears for checkout. Proofing – so much proofing – so much need for proofing. With help, this book could’ve been way better – because as it stands, it is something of a challenge to go through.

PS: We totally love the cover, though.
