Ride the Wave by Natasha West

Natalie Silver works in a PR company. She is offered a promotion but passes it. The company brings in Eden Tyler in the position. Eden is gorgeous, charismatic and popular. She also constantly pleasant and respectful of Natalie. All these things become reasons for Natalie to hate her and freeze her constantly despite Eden’s best efforts to connect with Natalie.

Natalie’s well-meaning sister has booked her on a lesbian singles’ cruise in a misguided attempt to get love into Natalie’s life. On the cruise, Natalie is shocked to find Eden also there. Surrounded by a group of quirky characters, there is push and pull between Natalie and Eden till they finally confess their feelings for each other.

In the beginning, Natalie and Eden are written with depth describing the fifty shades of messed-up that each one is. However, the book quickly devolves into a romcom without really exploring their internal landscapes or creating a safe, healing place for each one in the love that they find in the other. It becomes and remains superficial. So though the book entertains, it doesn’t satisfy.

PS: For the record, we liked Eden quite a bit.
